Thank you for visiting the University of North Dakota Department of Social Work website. We offer a graduate (MSW) and an undergraduate degree in social work. Both programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Please browse our site to secure information for current and prospective students, as well as field instructors and other social work practitioners. The site also offers information about exciting student and faculty activities, research efforts and links to other university services.
Because our students succeed in a rigorous academic setting, they are highly recruited by employers in North Dakota, South Dakota and the western regions of Minnesota. This site has been designed to be informative--to get you to the information you need with relative ease. So, take the time to visit us and let us know if we can assist you.
The Department of Social Work is in the top 25% in the total number of students enrolled in undergraduate programs at UND and the top 15% in the total number of enrolled graduate students. According to the 2006 Princeton Review, UND has “a great social work program.” We have a strong presence on campus and in the external social work practice community with 166 agencies contracted to provide field instruction to our students throughout North Dakota and Minnesota.
The Department of Social Work at the University of North Dakota activities are guided by its mission statement which is to prepare entry-level and advanced generalist Social Workers for the region to advance practice knowledge, values and skills consistent with the highest ideals of the profession by:
empowering vulnerable, oppressed, disadvantaged, and rural populations;
maximizing opportunities for every individual to realize his or her highest potential; and
promoting respect, awareness, and appreciation for culture and social justice at every level of society.
