Service opportunities don’t get much better than this. Recently, on a Saturday morning on campus, students from the Student Association of Nutrition and Dietetics (SAND) helped three regional Girl Scout troops earn their “New Cuisines” Badges.
Girls in grades 6 and 8 gathered in the Nutrition & Dietetics Food Lab to prepare a meal consisting of a Southwest sweet potato burrito, cornbread, and homemade hummus. In groups of three, the girls worked together at their stations to complete their tasks and learn about food science and cooking skills.
This was the second event of its kind to be held at the University. A similar event was held in the Fall of 2016 and SAND hopes to host regional Girl Scouts again next year.
SAND is an association of nutrition and dietetics students who meet monthly to discuss nutrition topics and to explore service opportunities like this one.
